Murray & Burrell was established in Galashiels in 1928, by Sandy Burrell and Andrew Murray.
In 1931, Sandy Burrell became sole partner of the business until his son George was also made partner in 1939.
The family tradition has continued to the present day with current Managing Director Michael Burrell. His daughter Sally (4th generation) recently joined the firm having worked down south with a number of nationals.
In the early years, Murray & Burrell carried out vital restoration and maintenance work for the area’s many textile mills.
Since as far back as 1934, Murray & Burrell have also been building new homes in Galashiels, for local people. The first homes were built in Glenfield and sold for £385.
The sustainability and competitiveness of the business is based upon the quality workmanship of our locally employed workforce and the ability to adapt to ever changing market requirements.
Today, Murray & Burrell are responsible for some of the region’s most recognisable commercial buildings as well as private housing developments across the Scottish Borders.
The expertise acquired by our workforce has also led to us building individual, bespoke homes incorporating the latest eco-friendly technology and built to the customers specific requirements.
